Running Backs Are No Longer Fantasy Relevant

Once upon a time, the running back position on a football team got you all your fantasy points. How magical it was, you would have two players getting you 20 maybe 30 points each a game. It was guaranteed that this was going to happen every week. Now you are lucky to hit double digits two weeks in a row with a running back. Now with committees and quarterbacks throwing 30+ times a game it is near impossible that you have a running back on your fantasy team that is worth a damn. It is more of a lottery, you are better off picking late round RBs and hope you grab that lucky ticket. You have better chances of hitting on one of those late round RBs than one that was on top last year, I have the numbers to prove it.

I run two 14 man leagues, with the help of my co-commissioners who are also writers on this blog. One is a PPR and one is not here are the score settings for each league.

  • NON PPR

Now using these score settings I am about to show you the slow death of the running back. No in all reality without PPR the best RB cant outscore JJ Watt. Oh, did i forget to mention I run real leagues IDP, So we will stick with the analyzing of PPR leagues. You absolutely need PPR now to make Running backs compete, but in all reality its not enough. Since 2010, there have only been 27 times that running backs have broken 300 fantasy points in a year, a year being 15 weeks. In that same time period, Wide receivers have broken 300 points 55 times, and Linebackers have broken 300 19 times. Now it doesn't take an expert to figure out that WR is much more valuable than RB based on that alone, but you will have the few idiots that will say "because there are less RBs breaking 300 they are more valuable." I would agree with that, but there is more to this, once a running back breaks 300 that is essentially the end for that guy. Out of the 27 times that a Rb has broken 300 points only 7 RBs did it more than once. With Foster being the best doing it 4 times. The 55 times wide receivers did it, it was done numerous times by 14 of them with 7 of them doing it 3 times.

WHERE AM I GOING WITH ALL THIS???

RUNNING BACKS ARE NOT WORTH COCK.

Last year only two of them broke 300 and I guarantee that neither one of them does it again this year. AP and Freeman are headed for a 200 point or less year easily. But you know the WRs and the QBs are going to do it again and again. So when draft time comes heed my advice. STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM THE RUNNING BACK. Grab yourself the sure thing. You can thank me now.
